Willard readying for July 3 celebration
Free swim, parade, fireworks among highlights at patriotic event
The city of Willard is set to host its annual July 3 celebration Thursday at Willard Park, featuring a full slate of family-friendly activities, including a petting zoo, free swimming, live music, a parade, and fireworks.
On July 3, the Willard pool will be open during normal hours from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., with a special evening session, the FREEDom Swim, running from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at no charge, Park and Recreation Director Kim Williams announced Monday.
“It will be a great time to cool off after the parade and before the fireworks,” Williams stated in a release.

The day’s festivities begin with a petting zoo hosted by the Huron County Community Library from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Wild Hooves Petting Zoo will be stationed next to Kiddie Land and will include alpacas, goats, sheep, mini donkeys, mini cows, and other animals.
Professional skateboarder, motivational speaker, author and athlete Doug Brown will make a return appearance, meeting fans at the Showmobile at 4 p.m. and leading a Skate Jam at the Skate Park later in the afternoon.
Brown has performed in national events such as the AST Dew Tour, Fuel TV and Vans Warped Tour, and has appeared on NBC’s “Good Co. Today Show." He is also known for touring with the band The Newsboys.
Live music is set to begin at 7 p.m. with a performance by MuckStorm, a local band covering a mix of classic rock and country music, including artists ranging from Chris Stapleton to Pink Floyd.
Also scheduled for 7 p.m. is the community’s Independence Day Parade, a crowd favorite featuring a wide varied of patriotic-themed entries. Food trucks and Spring Fest vendors will be on-site throughout the day to serve a variety of offerings.
The celebration will conclude with a fireworks display at 10 p.m., capping a day organizers say is designed to bring the community together in the spirit of summer and independence.
Willard’s July 3 tradition has been a long-standing community event, drawing families from across Huron County and beyond.
"Make your plans now to have a day of fun at the Willard Park," the release added.
