The New London Village Council recently approved the addition of Boen Dalton to the village fire department, following a proposal by New London Fire Chief John Chapin.
Chapin highlighted that Dalton has successfully completed his interview and emphasized the importance of expanding the team.
Boen's addition will make a total of 27 volunteer firefighters.
All New London firefighters serve as part-time employees, adhering to guidelines and standards set out in the Village of New London handbook as well as the New London Fire Department’s handbook.
The motion to add Dalton was brought forward by Village Councilman Mike Crabbs and received support from Jennifer Ball, who seconded the motion, minutes from the Oct. 14 meeting show.
The council's decision was unanimous, with all members voting in favor. Additionally, Mayor Toby Thomas requested updates on other emergency services.
Jennifer Ball provided an overview of the Firelands Ambulance service, noting that in August, the service made 74 runs, with a significant portion in New London Village itself.
The breakdown: 42 in New London Village; 9 in New London Township; 7 in Fitchville Township; 9 in Troy Township; 9 in Ruggles Township; and 7 mutual aid calls.
This brings the total for the year to 706 total runs.
