Heat prompts Peak Alert for Firelands Electric customers
Due to the extreme heat, a Peak Alert has been issued and is expected to last well into the evening hours (7-8 p.m. or later, depending upon conditions, Firelands Electric Cooperative reported Monday.
"Peak Alerts are issued when the demand for electricity is abnormally high as an effort to reduce the risk of higher costs and rolling blackouts," the New London-based cooperative said via social media post.
"During these alerts, members are asked to conserve energy wherever possible. Load management has also begun for those voluntarily enrolled in our programs," the cooperative said.
Firelands Electric serves members in the rural areas of Richland, Huron, Ashland, and Lorain counties.
