NORWALK — A fatal head-on crash is reported between a Kenworth truck and car in Huron County, authorities said early Tuesday.

Killed in Monday night's crash was the car's driver, Ashley Smith, 31, of Wakeman, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

Smith was driving a 2012 Hyundai Accent car eastbound on Cleveland Road near Townsend Avenue in Norwalk about 8:56 p.m., the patrol said.

The car went left of center and struck head-on the 2018 Kenworth T3 Series being driven westbound on Cleveland Road by William Kovac, 67, of Cleveland, the patrol said.

Smith, who was not wearing her seat belt, was later pronounced deceased at Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk, the patrol said. Kovac was not hurt.

The patrol's Norwalk post is investigating the crash.

The patrol was assisted by the Norwalk Police Department, the Norwalk Fire Department, the Huron County Sheriff’s Office, North Central EMS, Interstate Towing and the Huron County coroner.
